CENSUS RETURNS.

[SrECLLL TO TUB STAJt.] WELLINGTON, July 18. The followiug are particulars of the census, exclusive of Maoris :

The outstanding feature of the-returns is the preponderance of females in the boroughs—viz., 21c,433 against 211,633 males In the counties males number 255,078 and females 203,492. Wellington harbors more Chinese than any other city or town. . It contains 316 males and 18 females. Anckland has 111, p a lmerston North 72, Greymouth 111. Dnnedin 204, and Christch-irch 47. Altogether there are 1,372 Chinese in the country, of whom 68 are wom>n. . To every 1,000 persons in the counties there were 78 persons in the boroughs at the census of 1896, 8* at the census of 1901, and 93 at that.of 1906.
