THE BLIND ORPHAN GIRL.

TO THE KDITOR. Sir, —The remark at the close-of the appeal the other day on this girl's behalf was a. mistake, and was made without due consideration—viz., that the balance, if any, would be used for the relief of other exceptionally needful cases. I now wish it to be understood that all subscriptions received for the girl will be devoted to her use exclusively. She is only eleven years of age, and will require continuous supplies of clothing, boots, etc., during her six years' training in the Jui-ilee Institute for the Blind, and as she has no father's or mother's home to look forward to, a bank deposit, even of a few pounds, will servo so far, to give her a start when, at the close of her school period, she enters upon active life. All the money received for her will therefore be banked at interest in her name, and Mr Walter Hislop, of the Perpetual Trustees, has kindly consented to administer the fund. I have by letter duly acknowledged subscriptions accompanied' by the names and addresses of the donors. The following were sent me without any indication of their source:—Scotia, ss; Anon., ss; Anon.. £1; Friend, 8s 6d ; Maori Hill, 2s 6d; Friend, ss; Patria, 3s; Anon. (Milton), 15s. The . following have anonymously come to Mr Axelsen's hand: M.P., ss; Member of First Church, ss; A.M.. ss; Sympathiser (per Mr Duncan Wright), 10s. I also received this afternoon a kindly letter from a family at Edic>'ale, whose name I cannot make'out, with a postal note for ss; also 2s 6d from a lospital patient. To all who have so sympathetically responded to the appeal warm thanks are tendered, and when the fund is closed a full statement will be published.—l am, etc., J. A. Torrance. July 17.
