Michael Swords was fined £lO at Christchurch yesterday for procuring liciuor for a prohibited woman. The Hospital Committee of the Rockland Hospital Board cannot recommend the opening of dental rooms in connection with the hospital. The Auckland University College Conference passed a resolution expressing the opinion that the benefits of the Teachers' Superannuation Act should be extended to professors, lecturers, or officers of the college. It was also decided to invite the University Councils of Otago, Canterbury, and Wellington to co-operate in getting the Act amended next session. The attendance at the opening of the new Maori Hill School yesterday numbered 164, or forty-four in excess of what provison is made for. Yesterday was the twentieth consecutive day on_which rain had fallen at Auckland. The meteorological readings for" the forty-eight hours ended at 9.30 yesterday morning showed the rainfall of 1.39 m, making the total rain fall" for July 4.B7in—a record for Auckland.
