Miss Ward wore a dress of mousseline-do-s.oie, embroidered in white satin eclatant and Mechlin lace. The bodice, simply made, fell iuto a swathed eatin belt, the sleeves, trimmed with lace, reaching to the elbow. The skirt hung gracefully in soft pleats, relieved with witin and lace, which encircled the skirt in Vandyke design, with a deep satin fold at the foot. The Court train, draped, from the left shoulder, and festooned with chiffon, was of eolatan satin. In her hair the Court feathers and veil ■ Were worn, and her ornaments w-ere a pearl necklace and pendant. The debutante carried a bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley. Mr Crombie speafeg highly of the courtesy and comfort to be met with on this route from Australia to England. . Miss A. E. Miw Madeline Boyle, daughter of Mr Bert Boyle, the well-known representative of Mr J. C. Williamson in New Zealand, is to appear at Mrs Mallinson's recital at the Steinway Hall next week. Miss Royle has been studying at the Royal College of Music for nearly three years, and recently nrado ft successful debut at the Steinway Hall. She is to give a recital of her own towards the end of the year. Miss Macdonald ha« decided to remain in England to pursue her mimical studies, and to have her voice cultivated under Madame Minna Fischer.

Mercer and Mr George Ttitt, of Auckland, have arrived in London after a three-and-a-half months' journey from the colony. Thov came by way of Australia, China, Japan, and Canada, embarking at Quebec in the Empress of Britain for Liverpool, and arriving last- Sunday week. They have had a most interesting journey, and have enjoyed it imtnen*>oly. Since their arrival they have been spending a week at Hastings, Mr Tutt's native town, and exploring the by-ways of rural Sussex. Thev hope to spend about three months in the United Kingdom, visiting Scotland, and perhaps Ireland, and afterwards they will travel through France, Germany, Switzeiland. Italy, and Egypt, picking up an out-ward-bound steamer at Port Said. Mrs Robert Browning and her daughters, who came Home by the Ayrshire, have gone to rpend a few weeks in Ireland. They intend to winter on the Continent. Mr R. H. Hooper, of the High Commissioner's Office, has re-turned from Rome, where he acted as attache and translator to the New Zealand delegation at the Postal Congress. On his way back Mr Hooper visited the Milan Exhibition in the interests of his department. Among the record entry for the singlehanded Dowling tournament open to the world which is being played off at the Crystal Palace this week was Mr W. Reed, of the Palmerston North Bowling Club. The New Zcalander did not play up to his reputation, and after being indulged in a "walk over" in the first round, was knocked out in the second ties by Mr J. Hare, of the Balham Club, who scored 21 to Mr Reed's 16. Mr R. J. Farquharson, the New Zealand trainer, who has just arrived in this country to start training, has taken Manor House, Ogbonrne, • for that purpose. His horses will he trained on the same downs as Major Edwards's. Snowberry (whom Mr Farquharson purchased at, the last Kempton meeting), Dalkeith, Nightfall, and Scaipia have already arrived at Manor Rouse.
