W.C.T.U. CONVENTION.

GREYMOUTH, March 20. The_ twenty-first annual convention of the W.C.T.U. opened with a prayer meeting conducted by the President. ' The roll being called, the following took their seats-President. Taylor (Wellington), Miss AiCarthy (Waimate), Airs Harrison (Kaiapoi), Airs Don (Dunedin), Mrs Day (Lyttelton), Airs Graham (Gisborne), Mrs Newton (Woodend), and Mrs Boase (Aiatapu). Resolutions were passed protesting against employment of barmaids; calling upon the Premier to introduce a bill raising the age of protection for girls to twenty-one years; calling for the repeal of C.D. Act®*; urging the passage of a permissive Bill providing for the fining of guardians whose ‘children are found loitering' in the streets afc night; calling attention to the danger to the community of grocers’ bottle licenses. A telegram of greeting was received from the president of the West Coast branch of the New Zealand Alliance.
