'l* - -I ■ NEW BRIGHTON TROTTING MEETING. Ideal racing weather favored the New Brighton Trotting Club at their autumn meeting on Saturday. The sum of £5,481 was passed throulT the totalisator. The principal events resulted as follow:—ou Patrick's Handicap (in saddle or harness), of 100 sovs, 3m: Wallace (45sec) 1. Cinders (22sec) 2, Imperial Bess (15sec) '5. Won . by three lengths; Imperial Bess being a neck behind Cinders. Time, 7min 48£ sec. Dividends: On Wallace, £1 18s ; on Cinders, £4 10s. The local .Star Club kid a field day~at the Wellington regatta on Saturday, winning most of the events, and securing the cup presented by Messrs Stewart Dawson and Co. for most points. Having won it thrice, it now becomes tie property of the club. The following races were decided after our report closed on Saturday : Junior Pairs, lm. Prizes, £5 and £L— Union Club (Christchurch) 1, Petone Club (Wellington) 2. Other clubs represented: Union (NapierJ, Star (Wellington), Union (Wanganui). Time, 6min 52-^sec. Senior Pairs, Prizes, £lO and £2. —Star Club, Wellington (Evatt and Wheeler), 1; Wellington Rowing Club (Calnan and Galbraith), 2. Wanganui and Union Clubs also rowed. Won on the .post by 2ft. This race was rowed twice. In the first race Star finished first, with Union (Christchurch) second. The Wellington and Canterbury crews were in the lead when they fouled. A little later on thev fouled again, with the result that the Wellington Club's boat capsized. The umpire (Mr A. G. Johnson), held the Canterbury crew responsible Ifor the fouling, and disqualified Canterbury, and ordered the race to be rowed again. Senior Sculls. Prizes. Pearce's trophy and £5 (trophy to ba held for a year), and £l.—A. Rendall (Star Club, Wellington) 1, J. Crawford (Wellington Club) 2. Dowland (Star Club) and Lumsden (Petone) also rowed. The only starters. Won by a length. Time, llmin 26sec. A protest for an alleged foul was entered, but subsequently withdrawn. ONE OF THE "ALL BLACKS." A few friends of Mr S. Casey assembled at Murphy's Kensington Hotel on Friday evening for the purpose of welcoming him home on his return with the New Zealand football team. After the usual loyal toast, Mr M'Dermott, who presided, welcomed Mr Casey home from his visit to the Old Land, and on behalf of the company presented him with a pocket book, suitablv inscribed. In reply Mr Casey thanked all for the kindness shown to him, and said that although he had seen maDy strange places, none could compare with home, and he was very glad to be back among his old friends once more. During the evening vocal items were contributed by Messrs C. Stewart, R. Hargreaves, S. Marett, T. M'Dermott, E. Sharp, >E. Marett, J. Sharp, and a pianoforte solo by Mr Cooper. The following toasts were honored:—''The Guest," proposed by the Chairman, and responded to by Mr Casey; "The Southern Football - Club," proposed by Mr T. Isaacs, and responded to by Mr Rudkin; . "The All Blacks," proposed by Mr C. Stewart, and responded to by Mr Casey; " Kindred Sports," proposed by Mr Rudkin, and responded to by Mr Price; and " The Press." Mr D. A professional golf match was played at Auckland-on Saturday between Cnthbert (the Wellington Club's coach) and Hood (the Auckland coach). The match was won by Hood, with two up and one to play. Lady Wallace has been scratched for the Sydney Cup..
