CITY POLICE COURT. (Befo-.« H. Y. Widdowaon. Esq., B.MJ Drunkenness.—A first offender was fined ss, with, the usual option, and ordered to pay 2s cab hire. Another, who was found on the railway station, was fined 10s. with a forty-eight "hours' option. Ellen M'Gee, with 107 previous convictions to her discredit, was sentenced' to fourteen days' imprisonment. False Pretences.—William Milne was charged with having, in February last, obtained board and lodging to the value of £1 4s from Margaret Ann Ramsay by means of false pretence. Accused pleaded guilty'. —Chief-detective Herbert said the facts were that accused had himself as a cook in employment, and bad got board and lodging 00 the strength of that representation, keeping up the pretence of going to work each day.—Accused: said that he had stayed at the lodgings for seven weeks previous to the period of the offence.—Detective Herbert said that accused was well knowm, and that could be said ia his favor, except, it might be, that he was a very delicate voting man, and an opium subject! These things might be- taken. into account, hut that was all.— His Worship said that under those circumstances confinement would probably be best for the accused; therefore he would be sent to gaol for one month, with bard labor.
