A pleasing function took place on Wednesday evening at the Alornington School, when the Committee and staff entertained Mr and Mrs D. Henderson at a social on tho eve of Air Henderson’s departure to Scotland. As secretary to the Committee Air Henderson has taken the greatest interest in the school, and tho advancement of education in the district. To mark their appreciation of his services, the Committee and staff presented him -with an artistically -engrossed letter and a silvermounted walking-stick (of New Zealand wood), suitably engraved. The chairman, head-master, members of Committee, and stuff spoke in the highest terms of Air Henderson's work, his fine spirit and generous disposition in carrying out the many duties that fell to his ofiice. A pleasant evening was spent, and a programme of songs, recitations, and instrumental music was carried through. Refreshments were provided by the ladies.
