SENTENCED TO DEATH. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, March 15. The trial of the youth Quinlan for the murder of Airs Gregory, wife of a hotelkeeper in Western Australia, who was staying at the hotel where he was engaged as lift boy, has concluded. Quinlan was found guilty and sentenced to death, with a recommendation to mercy on the ground of Iris youth. Dr Palmer stated that the wonnds were inflicted by on© in a frenzied condition lather than by one who desired to kfll. Quinlan gave evidence in an extraordinarily calm manner. He narrated, without being in the least distrefsed, how he had committed tli© murder. He had, he said, to pay for his brother’s keep and to clothe himself. He alre paid a small instalment of his earnings to a money-lender from whom bis mother had borrowed money. He stabbed Mrs Gregory as she rushed at him, retreating from her all the time. When he first went to the room nothing was further from his mind than using the knife, which was in bis pocket. The Government pathologist said that the boy was decidedly abnormal, and did not appear to have any emotion of regret or fear. He had had him under observation while he .jyas lodged in gaol.
