Mr W. E. Bush has been chosen as city engineer for Auckland out of 120 applicants. Mr Bush avas formerly borough meter engineer at Sudbury, Suffolk. The Rev. 0. S. Bowden has resigned the charge of St. Mary’s (Anglican) Church, Mornington. The resignation is occasioned by private reason?. Father O’Reilly was presented with an address and purse of sovereigns on the eve of his departure from Oamaru for the Cathedral parish, Dunedin. Mrs and Miss Begg, of Napier, are at present paying a visit to this City. Mr J. Mackay, of the Labor Department, left for the North by the second express to-day. There was a unique and happy gathering on Monday afternoon last at “ Ngutukaka,” the home of Mr and Mrs J. R. Monson, Port Chalmers, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding day. The company comprised Mr and Mrs Monson, Miss Monson, Miss Alice Monson,. Mr Charles Monson (Roxburgh), Mr and Mrs Fred. Monson (Momiiigton), with their family (the Misses Myrtle and Constance and Master Harold); Mr and Mrs Robert Monson (Oamaru), with their family (Miss Irene and Mr Bernard); Mr and Mrs George Monson (Burnside), with their family (Miss Olive and Masters' Gcorge and Nigel). Indeed, every member of the family was present with the exception of Miss E. Monsou, who is residing in Sydney. In addition, the following friends were present:— Mesdames Tayler, Mallard, 1 Basire, Duhe Ward, Mr G. Duke, and the Rev. J. Ward! A Short thanksgiving service was held in the, drawing room, conducted by Mr Ward. At this the marriage hymn was sung, kd by Miss Myrtle, Miss Constance presiding at the piano. After the recital of many pleasant reminiscences, for fourteen years have elapsed since the last family leuntdoii, a photograph was taken of Mr and' Mrs Monson, with Mrs John Tayler, who, as Miss J. Carey, was Mrs Monson’s bridesmaid fifty years ago. A number of choice and valuable , presents were Made to' tic honored couple by members of the family and friends.
