A COSTLY COMMISSION.
WELLINGTON, March 15. Referring to the Scenery Preservation Commission, the Premier considers that there has been too much delay in dealing wjth some of the reserves which" should have been secured, with the result that the Government had been involved in additional cost. The- Commission had cost the colony .£2,500 in fees, travelling expenses, etc, and it was about time to cut the painter and hand the powers of the CJommresion over to officers of the Land Department. Tb» Comniiraicners were still travelling, and he supposed, they thought they were going on for ever, but they had made a mistake. The Commission comprised good men, but there had been too much delay. •
