DRAINAGE BOARD.

Tuesday night's ordinary meeting of the Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage Board was attended by Messrs W. Burnett (chairman), T. Scott, J. Arkle, T. Christie, J. Hancock, J. J. Marlowe, J. Small, and Dr Fulton. The Works Committee recommended that tenders be called for .various reticulatory works, and for completion of authorised sewers in Burns and St. David streets, a drain in St Anne's road, and also in Cargill road. Various tenders were opened, and referred to the Works Committee. —Reports.— Tho Finance Committee reported that sir.co last meeting of tho Committee £1,275 4s had been paid into the Board's aggregate account. Tito bauk book showed the aggregate fund to be £19,086 10s Id in credit, and the trust account to be £llO 10s in credit.—Adopted. The Works Committee reported that the petitioners for having the balanoe of the drainage in Bowcn street, Musselburgh, done, had been informed that the reticulation of this street could not be completed till the St. Kilda main sower is extended further, which work the Committee recommended should stand over until the locomotivo crane is available. The Committee rocommentled that the town clerk, St. Kilda, be informed that the Board decline to reeognisa any liability in rw-pect of a claim for damages by Mia) Macne©.—The report was adopted on the motion of the Ciiairman (Mr Small), who sakl that tho main intercepting sower was being excavated fur through the railway yard, and. given good weather, there should be very little of this work remaining to bo done by Christmas. A start had been made in Cumberland street also. —The Rising Maui.— The report of the Works Committee mentioned tho fact that the engineer had reported that a leakage had occurred over t94ft of the rising main, near the pumping station. On opening up it was found that certain bolts had given way. These are now being replaced by stronger one?, and the concrete rojdacing that taken out is being reinforced with strong wire, netting. The engineer has been requested to report further on the best means of obviating the shock which at present fcj-ken place hi the rising mains on the closing of the reflux valves, to which ho attributes the of the bolts. In moving the adoption of the report, tlio Chairman of the Works Committee (51r Small) s-aid that rjometlung very serious had taken place in tho rising main, though he did not know the extent of the damage. He had no doubt that the portion, now repaired, where the bolts had come away, would bo quite equal to tho duty it would bo called on to perform, but he thought that the whole main should be put to a test equal to wliat it might havo to go through on an emergency such as floods, etc. Messrs Hancock, Marlowe, Christy, and Dr Fulton wero appointed to meet repiesontatiyes of the City Council, whose Works Committee offered to accept £55 14s 6d in Bettlement oi their claim for the replacement of tho footpath over the Forbury storm water aqueduct, for which the Drainage Board had offered to pay £35.
