Your Association had the honor last year of conducting the New Zealand champiouthip tournament in Dunedin. The meeting took place on the Carisbrook Ground at Christmas, 1904, and was in every particular an unqualified success. It is to be somewhat regretted from an Otago standpoint that the winners of the various events in nearly every instance were visitors from other parts of New Zealand. Still, the Otago players received great benefit from playing against and watching better players than themselves. ' The tournament was honored by the presence of Miss Nnnneley and Mr H. A. Parker, the lady and men's respecfvely of New Zeaiand. Great interest was taken in the play of these two competitors, likewise in that of Miss Powdrell, of New Plymouth, and Mr R. Lycett, oi Victoria. The winners of the various events were as follow: .Men's Championship Singles, Mr H. A. Parki.r: Ladies' Championship Singles, Miss Nunntley ; Ladies' Championship Doubles, Mis.:; Nicholson and Jamieson ; Men's Championship Doubles, Messrs Parker and L.xcctt; Combined Championship Doubles, Mr Parker and Miss Nunneley; Men's Handicap Singles, Mr R. N. Goldie, the energetic secretary of the New Zealand Association, who kindly gave the meeting the benefit of bis knowledge and experience. The annual tournament was held, as usual at Easter on the Otago and Kaituna courts The Men's Sineles Championship again fell to Mr C. G. White, who became the owner of the cup (having won it three years in succession). Mr White generously "handed the trophy back to the Association on the understanding that it was to become a challenge trophy, and never to be won outright. Needless to state, Mr White's thoughtful action ib to be highly commended by the Association. The surprise of the ireetin?, however, was the downfall of Messrs White and Salmond in the Men's Championship Doub'es. Their conquerors turned up in the Brown Bros. (Kaituna). This event has been held by the former pair for some yeirs, and it cams as a surprise to not a few when they were beaten. Miss Campbell once more annex-d the Ladies' Championship Singles. Dnrine Inst season the Kaitunn Chib journeyed to O-.toith to trv coiir>sinn«- with the Oimirn Club, who wore defeated b-* a comfortable marjrin.
