AN INQUEST ABANDONED. The sailor who committed suicide on the Austrian warship Panther at Auckland by hanging himself from tbe funnel on Saturday night, was buried ashore to-day, and was honored with an escort of twenty-four and a volley at the graveside. When tho inquest was opened yesterday morning the Austrian Consul protested against it being held as being a breach of international law, and Captain Boscowan, A.D.C., waited upon, the coroner as the. jury left the morgue, asking him to postpone the inquest for a week. The coroner consented. Subsequently the coroner received a telegram from the Minister of Justice instructing him not to hold on inquest, as tbe Government aid not desire to strain the letter of internstional law too far. A telegram was also received from the Governor stating that instruction hod been given to abandon the inquest.
