[Special to the Stab.] CROMWELL, September 11. The banner match Cromwell v. Alexandra was won on Saturday byCromwell by 3 points toniL It drew the largestattendance ever seen on the football ground here, strong contingents coming from Alexandra and Clyde. The weather was perfect, there being no wind. Neither side had scored alt halftime. About a quarter of an hour from the finish of the seoond spell there was some brilliant passing by Cromwell. The ball was secured out of the scrum by Jolly and passed to Holden, who beat two men and passed to Varcoe, who passed to J. Campbell, who got over tbe line, making the record run of tbe season. The Alexandra backs were superior to Cromwell, whose forwards won the game. Undoubtedly it was the best-contested match up-country. Referee Wilson is generally admitted to have been the best referee who ever officiated on tie goldfields. Wylia was Cromwell's best forward. ASSOCIATION.
