THE NEW LIBERAL LEAGUE.

[Special to the Staii.] CHRTSTCHURCH, 'June 6. Inquiries made have foiled to elicit any deflnite information concerning the actual policy of the New Liberal League or the absolute planks of their plaform. The presence in towm of Mr W. H. Barber, M.H.R. for Npwtown, and of Mr Bedford, senior member for Dunedin, leads, howovrr, to the belief that they are associated with the movement,.. These gentlem°n are known to have been in with Mr T. E. Taylor and Mr H. G. EH, so that it is probable that the new party will be eomprisod mainly of those members who, while support in? a Liberal and Progressive policy generally, are not necessarily eye to eye with the present Administration. Several mombers of the Liberal side of the House telegraphed regretting their inability to be present at the recent conference, expressing approval of the objects of the conference. Two lengthy sessions were held, at which the present position'of the Liberal party and their prospects at the coming General Election were' fully discussed, with a view to securing constitutional reforms, improved administration of the colony's affairs, and a sa/e, definite, and progressive policy for submission to the electors at the approaching General Election. It was resolved to -organise a new party, and the details of a programme, after being discussed at length, were determined upon- With a view of n'eet'ng the convpnience of those who More unable to be present, the conferonce will meet again at an early date to arrange tre details of a colonial campaign. It vn.% detprmired to vigorously contest the rtxt General Election' in the interests, of the new organisation.
