PORT CHALMERS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of this Council was attended yesterday evening by the Mayor (Mr D. A. De Maus), Crs Cable, Tait, Morgan, M'Pherson, Barker, Edgar, Mawson, M'Donald, Shanks, and Brandham. —Correspondence.— The Clerk of the Waikouaiti Countv Council wrote that his Council had agreed to pay half-cost of repairing Macandrew ro:id, their share not to exceed £s.—Rcf -'• ed to Works Committee, with power to est. -LcSiTs Stevenson and Cook wrote requesting the Council to grant them permission to carry an electric wire across the street to the dock workshops, for the purpose of working their machinery bv electricity.— The action of the Mayor and Committeein giving permission was endorsed. Mr T. F. Martin, secretary to the Municipal Sssociation, wrote re rents to be conMdered by fife Executive and Legislative Committees of the Municipal Association. —Received. Mr' R. J. Foreman, secretary to the School Committee, wrote again calling the Council's attention to the state of the footpath opposite the Technical School.—Returred to Works Committee. —Reports.— The Works Committee reported that since the last meeting of the Council the drains at Island and Aurora ten-aces had been completed, and the fencing on the high level of Grey street and a portion leadiii" to the railway bridge, Sawyers Bay road, "had been repaired: also that a quantity of roUen rock had been spread between Laly aud Beniicia streets, while the drain at Dalv street was receiving attention. The Committee further reported that as only one tender had been received for Lcmig 'street drain fresh tenders be invited. IkMr Sutton's letter offering to sell or lease section.s49 for the purpose of quarrying stone, the Committee had no recommenda"tion to make. The Cor. mitee recommended that the following works be put in kind : The pathways at Bellevue place (near Mr Percy's property), Technical School, corner Ajax road and Wickliffe -'terrace, and at the Mechanic? Institute.—Adopted. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts since last meeting amounted to £l6O 19 lOd. The Committee recommended that the water officer to shipping receive £6 per calendar month and a commission of Id per ton on sale of water, to take euVt from June 1, 1905.—Cr Tait (chairamn) stated that on the former occasion, when the alteration in the remuneration to the water officer was before the Council, it was for •six months, which term had now expired, and if the recommendation of the .Committee were adopted the remuneration would be about £ll per month.—After several of the councillors had spoken, some of them stating that they considered that the water officer, should devote his- whole time to the Council in supplying water to shipping, the report was adopted. a The Reserves Committee recommended the acceptance of Mr John Mackav's offer of £2 for trapping rabbits (within two weeks) ™ the Mihiwaki water reserve.—Adopted. —Tenders.— Two tcndeis were received for quarry in" and breaking 100 yards of metal at the Cor" porutinn quarry, aiid were referred to the Works Committee, .with power to Act. —General.—• It was resolved that the cleric write to the PcivStTiiaster-General of the necessitv of a postal pillar, box between Bernicia and'lleridian streets' for the convenience of the residents on the Peninsula. Some of the 'councillors mentioned that on .several occasions a number of (he street lamps had not been lit, and the clerk was instructed to write to the gas manager. The Works Committee's attention was palled to the state of tho road from the coiner of George street to the railwav bridge on the Sawyers Bay road. SPECIAL MEETING. A .special meeting was afterwards held to consider the auditors' report and the bal-ance-sheet for the year ended March 31, 1905.—The Mayor was authorised to sign the same.
