VOLUNTEERING.

DUNEDIN BEARER CORPS. The annual meeting of the above oorps was held in the company’s orderly room, Garrison Hall, last evening. Suigeon-cap-tain Evans presided, and there was a large attendance of members. The balance-sheet showed the company to be on a very satisfactory financial footing, having regard to the large expenditure recently entailed in equipping the corps with new uniforms, etc. Surgeon-captain Evans, in the course of his remarks reviewing the past year’s operations, said the company were to be congratulated on the satisfactory state of affairs disclosed bv the balance-sheet. If members continued to take an intelligent interest in their work, as bad been done in the past, the company would keep on making steady progress. A few vacancies for recruits, as invariably occurs at tho end of a term, ate open, and suitable applicants may be enrolled on next drill night (March 7). It was decided to forward a letter to Sergeant D. Hutton, now of Auckland, thanking him for past services to the company. Sergeant Hutton, Corporal Gain, Lance-corporals Johnson, Allen, and Clarkson were unanimously appointed honorary members. The following committees were appointed for the ensuing vear :—Finanoe—Officers and non-commissioned officers; Orderly Room—Corporal Beck, Privates M'Naughton, Hansen, Downes, and Adam; Social— Lance-corporal Knox, Privates Crawford, Duckworth, Peters, and Riddell; Waggon Committee —Privates Kirkwood, Adam, Wilson, and Steers. Private Joseph was elected secretary, and Lance-corporal Knox and Private Yine auditors. - A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Corporal D. V. Gain, retiring secretary. It was resolved that a sum of £7 10s, to be devoted to coriipetilions, be, allocated from the company’s funds. With the customary compliment to the chair the meeting terminated.
