At the inquest held at Ravensboutne yes* terday, before Coroner Graham and a jury, into the circumstances attending the death of Sarah Tohill, who died suddenly the previous day in a railway carriage while travelling between Ravensboume and Sun* edin, a verdict of death from heart disease was returned in accordance with the medical testimony. At Whatoutu, in the Poverty Bay district, about 6.30 last evening, a young man named Eae, aged nineteen years, went in for a swim in the river after work. GISBORNE, Januam 12. George Stevens, who was injured a few days ago by a kick from a horse, died in the hospital last night after his leg had been amputated. A singular coincidence is that Stevens was brought to the hospital by George Rae, the young man who wa S drowned last evening.

CHRISTCHURCH. January 12. A very serious accident happened at Hanmer to Mia Holmes, formerly proprietress of the Upper Waiau Ferry Hotel. She was driving with Miss Pugh along the road with a skittish horre, when it took fright at a man on a bicycle and bolted. Miss Pugh was thrown out on the road, and Mrs Holmes caught her foot in the reins and was dragged about a mile. She was fearfully bruised, her clothes being tom off. Miss Pugh had a smell bone in the ankle broken. Mrs Holmes is in r very precarious condition.
