AUCKLAND, April 9. James Fielder, a blind man, was taken to the hospital in a critical condition, having taken a large dose of laudanum. Fielder resisted violently when the constable attempted to remove him from his residence, shouting " For God's sake let me die." He nearly threw himself downstairs, and when 'forcibly put into a cab attempted to dash threw the cab window.
