(Received December 12. at 10.10 a.m.) With a view io riiowing the position occupied by the management of the P. and 0 and Orient Companies in the intercolonial trade, die managers have handed to the Press copies of die correspondence with the Australasian Steamship Owner*' Federation. This goes to shox that the management of die two mail companies throughout have shown a desire not to interfere with the coastal companies, even to the extent of refusing .-11 carno for intercolonial ports and maintaining their passenger rates between ports on the coa<-t a* a much higher level. Mr Apple ton, the chairman of the Federation, states in one of h> letters that neither now nor at any time would we wi.-h legi.-la-tiou inimical to British interests. Ail we desire is a fair field and no'favor.
