■As a result of the Lord Mayor’s appeal, the Queen has given £I,OOO to start a fund for the enlargement of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital.
Subscription lists have been opened in Hertfordshire with the object of founding science scholarships in memory' of Lord Salisbury and erecting a statute at Hatfield. (Received October 28, at 7.25 a.m.)
The King and Queen were present at the opening of the new Gaiety Theatre in the City. Scores of enthusiasts waited outside the whole day in the wind and rain. (Received October 28, at 8.26 a.m.) A force of 600 men leaves Aden on November 4 to operate in the hinterland in connection with the Boundary Commission. PARIS, October 27. The brigantine Savoyard, of St. Malo, was wrecked at Fiaisterre. The crew, numbering thirty-one, with four women and the captain's wife, were drowned. COLOMBO, October 27.
