Dalbey’s ‘Southern Cross,’ is a bright march, not too difficult, but giving responsible work to every section of the hand and providing possibilities for nice effects. It opens doable forte for the whole band, and drops into some solid playing for tbe basses, after which there follows a counter melody for .rombones, baritones, and euphonium, this succeeded by a bass solo with semiquaver accompaniment for cornets, and then an effective pp passage for full band with pretty elaboration for the sonrano.
