’lTac Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show opened here to-day, under unfavorable weather conditions, rain falling all the morning. The entries this 1 year constitute a record—6o7, as against 480 last year. This is exclusive of implements. which provide a greater attraction than at any previous Timarn show.

Arthur Conyngbam was to-day further remanded till the 4th November on a charge of wrongful conversion of £3 3s, the moneys of Mr R. J. limes, of Wellington. Counsel for the prosecution stated that twelve additional informations (six for false •pretences and six for forgery of orders for books) had been laid, and were set down for the 4th prox. At a meeting of the Tradesmen’s Association at New Plymouth last evening it was resolved to draw the attention of marine insurance companies to the anomaly in the rates now charged for goods shipped irom London to New Plymouth, and that Taranaki merchants were debarred from insuring from port to port-; that the salvage clause bo amended so as to make the whole claim payable for goods doma-ged and removed by agents’ orders from buildings where a. fire occurs ; that the time has arrived when rates for New Plymouth insurances should he reduced by at least 25 per cent. ; and that the looses by fire hero for the past ten years nr more have been ridiculously disproportionate compared with the premiums paid.
