PORT CHALMERS BOROUGH COUNCIL
Tho fortnightly meeting of the Council was held yesterday evening; present —the Mayor (Mr D. A. Do Maus), Crs Edgar, Barker, Cable, Ttiit, Grhnscy. Gihbs, Clark, Shanks, and Maw.«nn. An apology was received, from Cr Stevenson. —Correspondence.— The Secretary of the OUgo District Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote notifying that the election by the Boroughs of West Harbor, Port. Chalmers, PaJmerston, and Hawksbmy woukl take- place in the courthous, Port Chalmers, at 2 p.m., on November 25. —Resolved that the mayor bo nominated as a member ou the. Boards. Mr D. M. Mawson. clerk to the Deacons'' Court., Presbyterian Church, wrote thanlung the Council for making an improvement to the crossing hi Mount street, opposite the path leading to the church. The Deacons' Court having learned that such action had 1 given rise to a complaint Thai, the Council had been favoring the worshippers oi tho Presbyterian Church, they bad decided to refund the Council tho cost of material for the crossing, and enclosed a cheque for £2 2s 6d.—Received. —Reports.— Tho Finance Committee reported that coupons on tho half-yearly interest on- water loans amounting to £lO5 ] ct d been paiil by tlio bank since- tho. last of the Council. "
The Works Committee that u\c motmds on the Beach road for the two. of the volunteers had been- completed. thai, the fencing along the Sawyers Bav road had been repaired, and that several necessary works in connection with tho channels in Souti Ward had received attention. In reference ti> Mr Sutten's Jcl.tor re taking stone from his section, t.hu Committee had no recommendation to make. —Adopted.
The Sanitary Committee reported that ail the necessary work had been completed at the farm.—Adopted. The Water Committee reported that a measurement had been taken from the inlet to the reservoir to tho proposed, we'r at Baxrowmau Creek, and the distance was about twenty-live chains. The inspectosubmitted that the probable cost to lift and relay tho 5m pipe ajad form a small dam woukl be £so.—Adopted.
—General.—
It -was resolved that the. sum of £SOO at interest to tho credit of tin: sanitarv fund be reduced to £550. and deposited for six months, tho balance to lje placed to ihe credit of the district fund account. The Council then adjourned until Tuesday, November 10.
