WELLINGTON, October 27. Several transfers and promotions in tlw postal service have just been decided on. The following are of local interest:—Mr Capper, postmaster at Port Chalmers, goes to the Thames, and will be replaced by Mr Walsh (transferred from the Bluff). * The vacancy in the Balelutha postmasteiship, owing to the decease of Mr Whifc, will be filled by Mr Brames. postmaster at Kttmara. Other changes are: Mr Sampson, ch:ef postmaster at Gisborne. becomes chief postmaster at Greymoutk. vice Mr C. J. Berry, retired on pension. Mr Renner, of Ashburton filling the Gisborne vacancy. Mr Dansey, postmaster at Waitara, becomes postmaster at Ashburton; Mr Gilbert, postmaster at Motueka, going to Waitara. Mr Salmon, supervisor at the Auckland Chief Post. Office, becomes postmaster at the Bluff. The vacancy at Palmerston Xorth occasioned by the retirement of Mr limes, will be filled by Mr Inder. postmaster at Coromandel, while the Coromandel vacancy «i 3 be supphed by Mr Tait, postmaster ?t Otaki/ The chief clerkship at Christchnrch, vice Mr Miller, deceased, will be filled hf Mr R. B. Morriss. senior money order clerk at the Wellington Savings Bank, -while Mr Morrises place will be filled by the retransfer of Mr A. H. Burton, senior money clerk at Christehurch Savings Bank, and Mr Gee, second clerk in the same office, becomes senior clerk. Mr GHler. money order and savings bank clerk at Invercargill. has been

promoted to be second clerk at Christehurch ; while Mr Pranks, telegraphist st Nelson, becomes postmaster at Kumara.
