A "TWO-UP" SCHOOL.

At Wellington on Saturday night the detectrses and pohco raided an alleged "two-up" school in a Marion street building, in which gambling was supposed to have been carried on. It was known as the Olympic Club, and was ostensibly used as a echool of physical culture and boxing, a pugilist named Sturgeon being one of the instructors. For some time past the place has been under suspicion, but an elaborate system of alarms had been fitted up, and tlie oilicers of the law had great difficulty in •bringing a raid to a successful issue. Two men who had been acting for the police were stationed inside on the pretence of being gamesters, and materially asskted in the arrest. The front door was rushed by Inspector Ellison and Chief-detective M*Grath. as a player was let out, and the inner guard was secured before he could give the alarm. The second barricade was opened by a confederate, and the rest was easy. Altogether thirty-rive men were arrested. The manager, named William Henry Eager alias Richard Oxenham, is charged with keeping a common gaming-house, and the others -with being found without lawful excuse on premises used as a gaming-house. Tho accused are principally laborers, clerks, and theatrical men.
