MILFORD SOUND AS A TOURIST RESORT.
Those who contemplate a trip to Milford Sound during the present season will hail with satisfaction the information that the Government Tourist Department has decided to make considerable improvements in the arrangements for getting there, and also for providing better accommodation for the comfort of tourists en route. The first steamer of the present season will leave the foot of Lake Te Anau on November 5, and this boat will take up the guides and all the paraphernalia necessary for the track. The department, has purchased Glade House, at the head of the lake, and this- has been placed in charge of Mr and Mrs Garvev, who were well known a,s the previous proprietors of this hostelry. The house is being thoroughly renovated, and more accommodation will ho provided. The department htis now assumed complete control of the track from To Anau to Milford, which ha* b*on put in thorough order, and the walking is now quite easy. Mr Beagenhoic has been appointed chief guide, and will have complete control of the track. Under him throe of Mr Garvey's sons, who have a thorough knowledge of the district, will act as guide*. Arrangements have been made for each steamer to be met on its arrival at tile head of the lake by a guide, so that tourists wilt not be subjected to any delay. It ii intended to considerably improve the commisariat on the, trip, and each hut will be thoroughly well stocked with tinned provision;.;, soups, etc. The huts themselves ;>.ro being renovated, and considerably improved. They are being supplied with cooking and lavatory utensils, and wire mattresses for the bunks, and sheets and pillow-cases will be found for th? ladies' quarter*. Guide tickets for the trip will be issued at Glade House.

It is probable that arrangements will be made for the steamer to visit some of the wonderfud fiords in Lake Te Anau during her trips up and down. Mr F. Moorhonse, inspector of tourist resorts, went south this morning lo make the necessary arrangements.
