PERSONAL.
We understand that Mr David Day, of the Customs Department, is on the list of Civil servants to be rtired under the sixtyfive years rule. Mr Day is now within a week or two of completing his forty years' of service in the department, and hav spent fourteen years in Dunedin as land n* waiter, and more recently as tide surveyor. liy his faithful service and hs unfailing courtesy he has won the hiprh regard of his superiors and those in and out of the service with whom he has been brought into contact. "Give every man his due" has been his motto, and he has acted up to it. The old fanvliar face will b" missed on the wharf, and we wish Mr Day health and strenrth to enjoy his time of rest for manv a day to come. Mr R. Allen, of the telem-aph staff rt Lawrence, on the eve of his transference to the Dunedin office. was presented by v Lis late fellow-employees with a silver-mounted pipe and case. Mickelson, a youn" man h : ghly esteemed in the district. Mr C. Driver- was voted to the chair, and referred to Mr Mickelson's many services. Mr Mouat having thanked Mr Mickleson on behalf of the many settlers for his valuable service* and many kind actions, presented h'm with a gold albert and pendant. Messrs Wis and Williams also spoke appreciatively of Mr Mu kelsons services. Mr Mickelson bavin-' returned thanks, son s were revered by Mesdames Rreele, Ford.
