FATAL RESULT OF A SIMPLE CUT.

Tbe somewhat singular circumstances ■which led to the death of a laborer named Edward Holmes, of Holt, were investigated recently by the coroner for East Denbighshire, at Wrexham. The deceased, who was forty years of age, accidentally cut his left hand whilst he was chopping sticks with a hook. He went to a doctor m Farndon and had it dressed. The next time the dressing was renewed was when he visited the Wrexham Infirmary as an out-patient, <fcine days after the accident, which happened on March 7. The surgeon (Dr Ollerhead) found the wound very dirty, and, after cleaning and dressing it, he tried to persuade the man to remain in the infirmary, as he was in a bad condition generally. The deceased refused, and said he would return on the following day, but did not do so, because it was so ill. He returned on the Wednesday (March 18) On the 20th he complained very much of his left eye, and upon examining it the

house surgeon found that a% abscess had formed behind the organ and completely destroyed it. On the following Monday Holmes became very much worse, and developed septic pneumonia, from which- ta died on the 26th inst. The coroner said it was a pity deceased did not stay in the "»hrmary when he was asked. Thr jury returned a verdict in accordance with thmedical evidence.
