A STIFF FINE
WELLINGTON, April 17. Dr M‘Arthur, S.M., gave his decision today in the case Commissioner of Customs v, Priske, a charge of bringing into the colony restricted goods and knowingly acquiring possession of prohibited goods—namely, opium. The defence was that the sections of the Act of 1882, under which the charge was brought, were impliedly repealed by the Act of 1901. His Worship held that this was not so. and fined Priske £IOO,
