MAORI HILL. *

At noon to-day nominations closed for the annual election of mayor and the bien nial election of councillors for the different, wards of the above borough. The occasion did not seem to be of much importance to any of the electors, not one of whom was present; but the returning officer, in accordance with the usual custom, formally read the following nominations: —For the Mayoralty.'— George Butler. —For the Council.— North Ward.—A. A. Aaskoy and Jas. B. Booth.

South Ward.—G. 0. Crowther, 0. M Grant, Peter Pilkington, and Wm. Robertson.

Thirteen were nominated for the nine seats in Ihe Borough Council. Mr Henry Davis was returned unopposed as mayor.

NAPIER.

Mr F, W. Williams has been nominated for the mayoralty of Napier, and Mr W. Y. Bennett for Hastings. It is not expected that there’will be a contest in other place.
