MINING NEWS.

The Deep Stream Amalgamated report a wash-up of 120oz for three weeks’ sluicing. The law case in which the Unity Company sued the Davis Bend Company for damage caused by the latter company’s dredge carrying away the stem line of the Unity dredge, when passing down the river, and thereby destroying the tail chute, has been decided. The plaintiffs alleged negligence on the part of the master of the Davis Bend dredge, in not giving notice of his intention to pass, in not having the buckets laced up, and in not taking up such a position as would enable him to have a clear view of the passage. For the defence it was alleged that the line of the Unity dredge was not lowered sufficiently, and that therefore the Unity Company were responsible for the accident; and, further, that it was not incumbent on the Davis Bend Company to give notice. The Warden upheld the contention of the plaintiffs’ solicitor, and awarded damages to the extent of the actual amount paid for a new chute.

Both the ladder and the buckets of the Gold King dredge were recovered without any loss (says the ‘ Mount Benger Mail ’). The manager is now engaged repairing, and does not expect to start dredging for about a week yet.

The work of lengthening the ladder of New River Molyneur Company’s dredge is expected to be completed this week. The Three-mile (Greenstone) dredge was working on the north side of the face last week. The ground was pretty heavy in places, and there was a large quantity of top stuff to be treated, so that the return was very good, taking everything into consideration. It is intended to work on the south side of the face this week. This side is improving, and on the whole the face looks very fair, giving every indication of steady returns for some time. The dredge-master states that he may have to stop shortly to overhaul the elevator trays, bushes, and pins, but he will run as long as possible, as he would like to get a little further ahead. The news of the declaration of a dividend caused considerable excitement in Kunura, where the announcement was received with cheers, March return of the Crown Mines (Auckland) gives a yield valued at £5,797 from 2,919 tons.
