PICNICS

Reid and Gray's fifteenth annual picnic was held at Lake Wajhola on Saturday. Liko Deermg "Ideal" binders, the weather was ideal, and about 400 journeyed "by tram to this favorite seaside resort. The Mosgiel Brass Band were in attendance, and provided enjoyable music. Toys in abundance were; provided for the boys and girls. 4?i the toys and priaes were the gift of the firm to the Picnic Committee, and at the cenohisioiv of the prise-giving by Miss Gray three hearty cheers were given for Mr Sames Gray and members of the firm, and also for the Committee, who, with-the energetic secretary (Mr David Beid), did their work satisfactorily. The Committee are indebted to Messrs J. Wilkie and 'Evening Star' Company, Bell Tea Company, Misses Paterson (Waihola), and otheij friends for assistance giyen. Boating on the lake, games in great variety, and ft good sports programme filled in thq day very enjoyably. A cricket mateh Clerical Staff v, All Comers resulted in a win for the former by 8 runs on the first innings. Mr J, H. Boos (of TJ.SJI.) and Mr Duncan Holmes (Gore) showed great form with the willow, while Messrs George Gray and J. Dick trundled with deadly effect. A lesson was learned from the) recent visit of Englishmen, as none of the bowlers' averages suffered by catches being dropped. An enjoyable day was spent, and all reached Dunedin at 8 pan,, satisfied with their day's outing,

The 'Eveninc Star' Company's manufacturing and jobbing departments! held their annual picnr on Saturday at St. Leonards, •whither sojne. eighty people, journeyed by boat and bike, also a large number by train.
