THE SCHOOL VACATION

BRAEMAR HOUSE. During the eighth, session, which has how closed, a large number of pupils were enrolled', the number this year exceeding that of any previous year. The principal reports:—The attendance has been .excellent, many never having been absent throughout the year. This points to the good health which the pupils have uniformly enjoyed. The enthusiasm and ardoi with' which the ordinary school work has been carried on by both teachers and pupils have produced most satisfactory results, the examinations of the last .term show-, mg in almost every case an improvement in all respects that is most gratifying. Last year _ two pupils , were presented for the matriculation examination, and both passed. The study of French continues to be an important feature in the education 'of the girls, and many of them can now carry on a fluent conversation in that language, the oral study thus proving of practical benefit to the. learner. In tee drawing classes good work has been done in the study of stilllife, model, qpd drawing froin the cast. In the competitive, examination in model drawing, held each term, two pupils—Miss lugeborg Michelscn. and Miss Flossie Fisher--.-specially distinguished themselves. The various classes for needlework have been successfully carried on. The'numbers attending the music, singing, and harmonyclasses have largely increased this year, and ■much talent is evinced by many of the students. This is nurtured by a systematic ’ course of preparation invaluable to examina-' don, candidates eradicating much of that .nervous self-consciousness which prevents the performer from distinguishing herself. This is obtained by the excellent Continental system of concourse held each term, in which the Misses Miller have been ably assisted by Signor Sqnarise and Mr W. E. Taylor, F-C.O. In tee recent Trinity College examinations five pupils were presented, all of whom passed, two—-Misses Lily Michelscn and Ina Gow—qualifying themselves as certificated teachers of music, and [Miss May Lello passing the senior examination with honors. In the harmony examinations four pupils were presented, and ■ all passed, two taking honors in the senior divirion. In the theory examination held by the Associated Board of the R.C.M. and R.A.M. ten pupils were presented, nine of whom passed, two—Misses Annie Wliite and Muriel Adams—taking 97 marks out of a possible 99. In the practical examinations of the Associated Board ol the R.C.M. and 11.AM. for pianoforte ten pupils were again presented; seven passed These excellent results show much patient and diligent study on tee pari of the pupils, and are most gratifying to their teachers. Mr. Maitland Gard’ner’s singing classes arc still sucesaful, the work attempted and satisfactorily accomplished' in the senior class proving the result of the careful train in" given last year. This is specially noticeable in the study of sight-singing and ear exercises. In conclusion the Misses Miller gladly take this opportunity of expressing their, appreciation of the unceasing efforts of the staff to promote the well-being of the school.
