The death of Mr Gleeron, at Green Island, recalls the memorable riot which took place oposite the European Hotel in George street in 1890. Mr, Gleeson was then a constable at North Dunedin, and he pluckily tried to arrest two drunken sailors in the face of a mob's resistance. Chief Clerk Dale, now in the local office, was then a constable, and lent valuable assistance to the deceased in his duty. Mr Gleeson -was afteiwaidß transferred to Ophir, where he resigned the Force to enter the hotel at Green Island. Large fortunes have been realised by lucky inventors.
