GREYMOUTH, September 30. In connection with the saw-millers' dispute a conference was held here yesterday afternoon, when terms were come to in regard to rates, which remain as heretofore.

The Tyneside Colliery Company are erecting bins and screens. The mine is clear "of water and in good condition, with a quantity of good coal in sight. Owing to the backward state of the bins and screen it will be two months before coal is in the market.

A large number of unemployed in the district propose calling a public meeting to urge the Government to proceed more rapidly with the State coal railway. CHRISTCHURCH, September 30. The hearing of the grocers' dispute was started at the Arbitration Court this morning. The claims of the union are that forty-six hours shall constitute a week's work; counter hands to be paid £3 10s, £3, and £2 10s, according to position; provision hands, £3 and £2 10s; carters £2 10s and £2 5s j casual labor, Is 3d per hour; overtime, time and a quarter for first two hours, and time and a-half afterwards, double rates on holidays; preference to unionists; apprentices, one to three journeymen in addition to one for each firm, and to be indentured for five years, and the pay to range from 6s to 30s.
