MUNICIPAL.

Maori Hill.—The adjourned Council meeting of this borough was held last evening, when there were present—The Mayor (Mr G. Butler), Grs Smith, Steven, Davidson, Grant. Crowther, Booth, and Pilkington. —A special meting of the Council was held to adopt the annal report and balancesheet, which was done.—lt was decided that the town cleik write a letter of condolence to Mrs M’Gonnack on behidf of the Council, sympathising with her in her bereavement" through the loss of her husband, the late Or M'Cormack.—D. Frame wrote calling attention to a wooden bouse or hut with a wooden chimney, owned by Mr Fox, in front of his property, thus causing possible danger to his property through fire. It was resolved that Mr Pox. not having complied with the resolution of the Comifcil, be written to, and that he be given ten days to remove the structure, failing which the matter to be placed in the hands of the borough solicitor.—Mr A. R. Barclay, M.H.R., forwarded the reply of the Minister of Lands to his inquiry re Davidson’s road, to the effect that the road surveyor at Dunedin had furnished a report on the matter, but as more information was required, he had been again written to, and the application would be dealt with when a further report was to hand. Received.— The Coronation Celebrations Committee ■sfrrote asking for £6 2s 6d, balance due as the Council’s contribution. Passed for payment.—Dr Ogston , wrote directing the Council’s attention to the section of the Municipal Corporations Act making provision for the prevention of overcrowding. Resolved that a committee, consisting of Crs Davidson, Pilkington, and Crowther, be set up to revise the by-law to meet the case.—Messrs Smith, Chapman, and Sinclair wrote intimating, on behalf of the Otago and Southland Investment Company’s claim for compensation for land taken by the Gonncil for widening the road, that unless they heard that the claim was receiving consideration, the company would file a formal deed of dedication, and proceed, under the Public Works Act, to have compensation assessed. Resolved that the clerk write stating that the Council wetfe not prepared to pay the sum asked for.— Mr J. A. Millar, wrote on the same matter, stating that it was the intention of the Government this session to introduce a Bill to meet the objections raised by the Council, and that they hoped to pass it. Received.—Mr R. T. Wheeler, jun.,' wrote re the formation of street at Balmacewan. Referred to the Works Committee.—The yearly Hospital and Charitable Aid Board accounts for. the year were as follow:—Charitable Aid Board, 1377 6s 6d, as against £66 last year; Hospital Board. £45 ss. as against £44 last year.
