A KINDERSPIEL.
A concert and kinderspiel took place in the North-east Valley Town Hall last evening, the performers being the Sunday school children of the Presbyterian Church and their friends. -There was a very good attendance, and the function passed off successfully. The children showed that they had been properly coached beforehand, and their choruses went with a vim, accuracy, and strength that would have done crcd.t to any of the choirs in town. These kinderspiels are greatly to be encouraged, for they cannot fail to develop the musical instincts of the children in a very pronounced way. Last evening there were heard in the cantata, which was called ‘ Day of Rest and Gladness,’ a number of youthful voices which show promise of being worthy of cultivation in the future. The bulk of the work fell on Miss Gertie Bland, who sang ber solos with an astonishing precision and delicacy of tone for one so young. The others who look part in the performance were Misses Katie Bland, Lily Arthur, Emily Dove, Nessie Borrie, Edith Wright, Beatrice Murray, Be:.sic M’Kay, Alice Milward, Nellie Miller, Bertha Lougworth. Muriel Bradley; and Louis Booth, Walter Henderson, Herbert Bland, James Gray, Cecil Murray, William Mitchell, and Leonard Booth. The cantata was conducted by Mr D. Murray, Mrs Murray presiding at the piano, and Mr D. Brown at the organ. The first part of the evening was occupied by a concert, in which the following took part ; —Organ solo ‘ Cujus animam,’ Mr I). Brown; song, ‘The promise of the Kintr,’ Miss Drake; song, ‘The last muster,’ Mr J. G. Henderson ; duet, ‘ Home, sweet home,’ Misses Feathers (encored); song, ‘ The holy shrine,’ Miss B. Murray; song. ‘ Eternal rest,’ Mr H. Drake (encored) ; song, ‘ Children’s voices,’ Miss M. Bland; duet, ‘ I’ve wandered in dreams,’ Miss Drake and Mr H. Drake. All the soloists had a very cordial reception, this portion of the programme being quite as enjoyable as the other. The Rev. D. Borrie. who pre died, proposed a. vote of thanks to those who had assisted in the performance. Tnis was carried by acclamation. The performance will be repeated this evening.
