OUR STREETS.

TO THE EDITOn. Sir, —During my long residence in this City I haven't seen the streets or roads in such a deplorable state, excepting, of course, when they were being "fixed" thirty or forty years ago. What I would suggest to some of our talented engineers would be the construction of a " suction pump," which could be used for the purpose of sucking up the semi-liquid clay soup. A waggon to hold four 400 gal tanks on board could be utilised, with a traction engine or " Barnes's baby," which would answer a double purpose, both for towing the waggon and the generating of steam for the pnmp. The present system of using big shovels and old horses in carts carrying about one ton of slush is far too ANTCQtTATKD. June 17.
