[Special to thb Star.] CHRISTCHURCH. June 18. The New Zealand Cup favorite, Siege Gun, has been down at Riccarton during the week. He looks well. Cruciform, who h;is also paid a visit to headquarters, looks rather light after her arduous season, but the Ch: mpagne Stakes winner, Orloff, bears a very healthy appearance. A mare by Lakeshell from Lavender ha»s joi led Murray Hobbs's team. The hurdle-racer Long Tom is once again a member of Y. Holmes's team. The latest addition to the aspirants for hurd'e race honors is Lapidary. Hi ku was schooled over the big fences in company with J.P. on Wednesday. The pair both came to grief at a double which has just been erected opposite the grand stand, but on making a further effort jumped the obstacle in capital style. Huku's stable companion, Skobeleff, however, does not seem destined to win renown over hurdles. When schooled on Wednesday he absolutely declined to jump a single obstacle. DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB. At a special meeting of the Dunedin Ji.ckey Club Committee last evening it was resolved to apply to the Conference for the following dates for racing for the ensuing season:—Spring meeting, October 8 and 11; summer meet.ng, December 26 and 27; autumn meeting, February 25, 27, and 28; winter meeting, May 22 and 23, or, if rule altered, June 3 and 6. The dates submitted by country clubs were considered, and will be sent on to the Conference. —The Hon. Geo. M'Lean and Mr J. A. Millar, M.H.R., were appointed delegates to the Racing Conference. PING-PONG MATCH. A ping-pong match was played last evening in St. Mary's Schoolroom between teams of twelve a side from members of the confregat ons of the Mornington Methodi t Church and St.. Mary's Church. Two g; mes each were played, one of 40 and one of 30 up. The result was a win for the St. Mary's team by 83 points. Sir Thomas Lipton has informed the London correspondent of the 'Sydney Mo:nng Herald' that he has definitely decided to make another try for the America Cup. Indeed, be means to go on trying till he gains the prize.
