AUCKLAND, February 15. At a public meeting, held at the City Council Chambers, presided over by the mayor, it was resolved, on the motion <h the mayor, seconded by tiro Hon. L. Mitcbelsotr—“ That the eminently patriotic, statesmanlike services rendered on behalf of New Zealand to the Empire in the past season of anxiey and stress by _ the Premier call for due cordial recognition by tbs people of New Zealand! The people of Auckland have accordingly resolved to tender the Premier a fitting and adequate recognition of such services prior to his departure for England” It was further resolved that the celebration should take the form of a testimonial m the form of a purse of sovereigns An influential committee were appointed to give effect to the resolution.
