CRICKET.
Bakes' and Williams are the only two out of the seven players selected from Otago for the South Island and North Island match who will be able to make the journey to Wellington. Frankish and Callaway (Canterbury) arc also unable to get away, so that, with so many of the original team finding it impossible to get the°necessary leave, there is very little likelihood! of the match taking place. A bungle was made in the first instance in not arranging for the contest to be played during the Christmas or New Year holidays. The Otago-South land match will be played here necit Saturday and Monday. The Association have considerately decided that the game shall be played as a benefit match for Mr C. Frith, one of the bestknown cricketers in New Zealand in his dav, who has been in ill-health for some time. ________________
