The Secretary reported that, the bill for lecTil expenses m the case against the Tomahawk Road Board re the deposition of nightsoil in that locality amounted to £77 6s 7d.—The secretary was instructed to forward the proportion of costs to the various Boirds, as follows: —City of Dunedin, £46 13? 2d ; South Dunedin, £l4 16a 3d ; and Cavershain, £ls 17s 2d. Mr G. M. Barr wro1« offering his services in connection with the encroachment of the sea at St. Clair. —Consideration deferred.

The discussion on Mt Mason's scheme for the reclamation and preservation of the coastline at St. Clair Beach was then undertaken b the Board. It was finally agreed thai the building of groins out seawards would be the best course to adopt in the meantime. A jetty groin would, in the opinion of Mr Hancock, provide a promenade for visitors and would not be regarded as an obstruction, while it would protect the sandhills on the eastern side of Forbury road, and in conjunction with the crib-groins cause the sand to bank up, and so raise the beach level. Mr Stirling moved —"That two cribgroins and a jetty-groin be erected at St. Clair, as recommended by Mr Mason in his report, at a cost not exceeding £Boo. Carried. It was further resolved that the necessary statutory steps be taken to obtain the sanction of the burgesses interested to raise £I,OOO for the providing of funds to carry out the 'iioposed works. The chairman and Mr Hancock were appointed to draft the required advertisement and arrange any detail*.
