VOLUNTEERING.

WAKARI v. EAST TAIERI RIFLES. A match was fired between the above companies at Mosgiel on Saturday afternoon. Conditions: Ten men a side, seven shots with optional sighter at 500, 500, and 600 yards. The shooting of both teams wss much below the average, and this was accounted for by the constantly changing light and wind. At the conclusion of the match Color-sergeant Wilson thanked the officers and men of the East Taieri Rifles for the manner his team had been entertained, and invited the East Taieri Rifles to fire a return match at- Holyrood. He regretted to hear that Captain Caxncross wa* shortly to sever hia connection with the East Taieri Rifles on account of removing *from the district, and expressed the hope that although leaving the Taieri the volunteer force would not he deprived of his services. Cheers were then given by the Wakari men for East Taieri Rifles, Captain Camcross, and Lieutenants Cameron and MT/fturin. Captain Carncross thanked the Wakari team for the friendly manner in which they had fired the match, .ml Color-sergeant Wilson for his kind remarks in reference to himself. He said lie felt his severance from his company very much, as he had been fourteen years an officer of it, and had during that time always been on (he best of terms with the men.
