LONDON, February 7.
The Bank of England returns show that the stock of coin and bullion is £54,125,000. The bank reserve is £25,184,000, the proportion of reserve to liahilties being 48.76. The total of notes in ciruclation is £28,960,000 ; public deposits, £12,338,000; other deposits, £39,062,000; Government securities. £17.274,000; and other securities, £27,296,000. Consols are quoted at £94 10s.
Quotations for colonial Government stocks are subjoined, compared with those ruling at the close of last week:—
The wheat markets are inactive. The Continental supply is steady. American cargoes are qniet. Victorian January shipments, 29s 9d; South Australian and New South Wales Jannary-Febniary shipments, 30s; Victorian parcel of January shipments, 29s lOd and 29s 3d. Lead, £ll Is 3d. Butter.—The demand is improving for choice qualities. Colonial is in qniet demand at from 108s to 110s. There is a brisk trade in secondaries at from 98s to 102s; Danish, 112s to 114s. Cheese is quiet. New Zealand, 49s to 60s. (Received February 8, at 9.20 a.m.) The American visible supply of wheat is estimated at 88,800,000 bushels. Three months’ bills are discounted at 2 11-16. Copper is firm. Spot, £54 17s 6d; three months, £54 15s. Tin; Spot, £112; three months, £lO6 10s. Pig iron, 49s 7£d. Sugar is steady. German, 6s 7Jd; first marks, 8s 7£d. Bradford wool is firm. Common sixties, 19£ d ; supers, 20^d.
