Over eighty men left by this morning’s express as the Christchurch detachment of the Ninth Contingent, and will join the camp at Forbnry Park, Dunedin,

ASHBURTON, February 8. Twenty-five men, being the Ashourton section of the Ninth Contingent, left to-day by tluvexpresa for Dunedin, Acting-sergeant Willis in charge. Two follow later. There was a great crowd at the station to see the last, of them. The mayor called for cheers for the contingent, which were lustily given, and the men gave three ringing cheers for the friends they were leaving behind.

Of the seventy men in Mataura who passed the various tests, the following fifteen have been finally selected for service with the Ninth Trooper J. Williams, Fourth Contingent; Troopers A. M'Queen, A. M'Eain, J. J. Ross, and H. Keown, Mataura M.R.; Private A. Briggs and Bugler Christie, Gore Rifles; Private Stiven, Tapanui Rifles; G. Biggar, Gore; C. O’Brien, Mandeville; W. Fraser, Luinttden; H. R. Martin and H. Hardman, Balfour ; Y. Halberg, Waipahi; and W. Moffitt, Waikaia.

QUEENSTOWN, February 8,

The Wakatipu portion of the Ninth Contingent, comprising ten men, left this morning for Dunedin. Eleven was the number allowed, and fourteen applied. IN V’EBCARGILL, February 8. Southland’s quota of thirty men left for Dunedin to-day. The usual speeches were delivered by the mayor and others. The Garrison Band headed the procession through the streets, and hearty cheers were given. The men are a superior lot.
