SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
At the meeting of the Hhwm street School Committee, held latt evening, there were present —Messrs Q. C. Israel (chairman!, E. Stratton, R. SPEnlay,, and W. Bull. Mr G. Henry was elected, to the vacancy on the Committee canted by the resignation of Mr Mark Cohen, and took his seat. Ihe chairman reported having conferred with the chairman of the Education Board as to the appointment of "tv acting bead-matter in the absence of Mr Stewart, and it was resolved that Mr Line (the first assistant! should receive instructions to assume the duties, and that Mr Menzies (relieving teacher) should tafaj charge of the Sixth Standard. Tie chairman was empowered to express the sympathy of the Committee with the family of the’late Miss White, and to condole with them in their loss. The ana'of £2/ was rtceived from the secretary of the Schools Demonstration Committee as tie school s share In the distribution of the proceeds. The acting head-naster reported that there were 587 children on the roll (sixty ncu; pupils having'joined during the week), wit a an average attendance of 496; that Sanui l Strang, a pu»il of the school, had taken one of the junior scholarships, and that Miss Duthie had temporarily taken charge of the infant class. The Works Committee’s report was received. Messrs Strati on and I‘Teary were appointed a Visiting Committee f° r After 801310 discuSs:oi ! it was resolved to abandon the proporol picnic, out of respect to the memory of Go deceased msetressand on account of the protracted illness of the headmaster.
