Cavkrsham.— The fortnightly meeting rA the Borough Council was held last evening, and attended by the Mayor (Mr T. K. Sidey, M.H.R.) and Ors J. Wilson, Searie, Boston, Stevenson, Bridgman. Puddy, R. Wilson, Rutherford, and Bridger.—The Works Committee reported re the petition from the residents at Allan dale that they had been informed that the Council recognised the necessity of a lamp there as well as in many other parts of the borough, hot regretted that until the present contract for lighting expired they were not in a position to supply any more lights. Ap-proved.-—The Drainage, Water, and Sanitary Committee recommended that panties having one horse be charged 5s per annum, while those having two or more horses should have their water supply by meter, with a minimum charge of £1 per antrum, including meter rent. Adopted.—The Finance Committee reported that £243 19s lOd had been lodged in tie bank since last meeting, and they recommended that the following rates be adopted for the current year: —General rate, Is 3d in the pound; hospital rate, 3d in the pound; sanitary rate, fid in the pound; and the water rate at 5 per cent. The first danse of the report was received, odd the Council went into committee to discuss the latter.—Cr Burgess was granted six weeks’ leave of absence. —Mr George Colder asked the Corned’s sanction for time to subdivide ior saxc and settlement the southern half of sections 39, 40, and 41, Wock 7, town district, comprising about, sateen acres. Before he had the place surveyed he wanted the Council to Vet him know on what conditions they would declare the road lines to be public streets. Referred to the Works Committee.—The secretary of the Ocean Beach Domain Board wanted an answer to their letter asking the Council if they were prepared to bear then 1 proportion of the cost of defending tie action brought by the Tomafiowk Road Board against tne Domain Board re the deposit oi nighteoil on ’he Sandhills. It was resolved that the town clerk write and ascertain the amount of iU Council’s quota.
