Pictorial post cards originated in Germany some twelve years ago, and, like all great things, began in a very small way. Who actually started the idea is not known, but it is generally believed that about the year 1888 a few post cards bearing pictons of celebrated places first began to find their way into Berlin. Last year hundreds of millions of picture cards passed through German post offices, yielding to the Government an average income of £3,000 a day.—The ‘ Captain ’ for October. The costliest for is that of the sea otter. A single spin of this- animal will fetch M much as £2OO.
